Free from ice throughout winter

Frost on your overhead lines can lead to serious timetable disruptions. Thanks to Ice Guard, ice formation does not stand a chance.
Daytime ice formation is not really a big problem, because the pantograph scrapes the accumulated ice layer from the overhead lines on each pass. However, fewer trains drive at night, giving ice and frost an opportunity to grow. The result: as soon as trains start driving again in the morning, there are delays.

Ice can cause damage

Because ice and frost partially stay attached to the overhead lines during the day, this causes irregular conductivity. This creates sparks and ultimately causes the overhead lines to crack and split. In addition, the shower of sparks is harmful to rolling stock. If the ice accumulates on top of the overhead lines, this can also cause the power supply to fail.

Many transport companies therefore opt to have an empty tram or train drive at night during periods of frost to keep the overhead lines free from ice and frost. A costly, time-consuming and wasteful undertaking.

"Thanks to Ice Guard, railway malfunctions caused by ice and frost formation on the overhead lines are a thing of the past."

The solution: spraying

Treating the overhead lines with a special spray causes a thin layer to form on the lines that prevents condensation and water from adhering to the contact line. A special feature of this spray, with the brand name Ice Guard, is that you do not need to apply it daily. After each application, the lines are protected for a period of approximately 45 days. Several applications each winter therefore suffices.

Ice Guard keeps the railway free from ice

At the present time we still need to de-energise the overhead lines before a treatment. We are working on a new method for applying the spray even faster, while the lines continue to be live, thus saving even more time.

Thanks to Ice Guard, railway malfunctions caused by ice and frost formation on the overhead lines are a thing of the past. Ice Guard keeps your railway available, even on cold days.
