Hypermodern Operating Theatre complex
The most modern operating theatre complex and outpatients' centre in the Netherlands has officially opened in the Máxima Medical Centre in Veldhoven.
The complex comprises eight hypermodern operating theatres with the very latest medical equipment, one for robotic surgery and one hybrid operating theatre. The top priority is to ensure that the patient gets the best quality in terms of care and care environment.
The new building was not only necessary to accommodate the increasing amount of equipment required during surgery, but also in response to the improved techniques available to perform complex operations. The Máxima Medical Centre (MMC) is the first hospital in the Netherlands to use the Senhance robot, which is so far only used in other places in Europe and in America. The new operating theatres are therefore bigger in surface area and have the latest equipment and air conditioning. In the new complex, plenty of daylight, an efficient routing (one way) system through the complex and of course use of colour ensure that patients feel comfortable and that staff have a nice place to work.
Five years' preparation preceded the start of construction. During this preparation, all the disciplines working in the Operating Theatre complex were involved. Following a risk analysis, the MMC decided on a new build project rather than renovating the existing complex. This meant that the new complex could be completed faster and with less disruption for the care provided. Which is important for continuity of the service. The excellent preparation with all involved, the visual interpretation in BIM and artist's impressions ensured that smart solutions became reality.
This integrated contract in the form of a UAV-GC 'light' offered both certainty and flexibility. The hybrid operating theatre was added to the Operating Theatre complex later, for example. And the way in which the desire for more daylight has been integrated in the design is striking. This makes a huge contribution to the wellbeing of both staff and patients.
The new Operating Theatre complex for MMC Veldhoven comprises three storeys and covers 8,000 square metres. The outpatients' centre for children and adults, space for preoperative admissions and adjacent rooms are on the ground floor. The operating theatres are on the first floor, while the second floor is the epicentre for technology. The new building has also been designed and realised to be maintenance-friendly.
The Operating Theatre complex was due to be delivered in the autumn, but due to the good preparation and cooperation in the building consortium of Strukton Worksphere and Carebuilders, the project was completed in mid July.
Strukton Worksphere is all about creating healthy buildings. We do this by smartly connecting the users and the building with all its data. This results in a positive experience/perception of your health care building. You are good at providing care. We know a lot about buildings. Together we deliver the best care in healthy buildings.
