Spectacular work at natural bridge Duinpoort
On behalf of ProRail, Strukton Civiel is constructing a natural bridge in the dunes near Zandvoort, so that animals can safely cross the railway line. From Monday 5 March to Thursday 8 March, the deck will be placed over the track.
For this project, 28 concrete sleepers of 22 metres long and weighing around 31 tons will be hoisted into position. This will be done by two big hoisting cranes (250 tons), which will pick up the sleepers and position them over the track. On Tuesday, the steel frames will be assembled from the peripheral elements. On the other days, work will continue on installing gabions on these frames.
Due to this work, the railway line will be out of service for 4 days. Buses will be in operation. The work will be completed early on Friday morning (5.00 a.m.) and trains will be back in operation.
Natural bridge ready in the summer
After positioning the sleepers, the finishing work on the natural bridge will continue at the beginning of March. The area will then be arranged (soil on the bridge, vegetation, fencing). This work is expected to be finished by the summer holiday.
7000 hectares dune area
Natural Bridge Duinpoort is the last natural bridge to be created in the dune area. The other two natural bridges have been built over Zeeweg (Zeeport) and Zandvoortselaan (Zandpoort). Thanks to these three natural bridges, there is now one large dune area covering more than 7000 hectares where animals can live freely.
Previously Strukton Civiel constructed Natural Bridge Laarderhoogt in the A1.
