New building awarded to BESIX and Worksphere
Utrecht University of Applied Sciences awarded the SPARK consortium the contract for the new building and subsequent 15-year maintenance.
Utrecht University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool Utrecht in Dutch) awarded the SPARK consortium, a combination of BESIX and Strukton Worksphere, the contract for the new building and subsequent 15-year maintenance as the final piece of a long-term housing programme for Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. In summer 2016, work on the new building starts on the site of the current Bolognalaan car park in Utrecht. This new asset for Utrecht Science Park will be delivered in December 2017.
This efficient, flexible and sustainable 22,000 m2 building was designed by renowned Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen. The building's lovely design, facilities, inspiring image and hospitable atmosphere will surprise the users and create a SPARK. Users enjoy coming to the building every day to study and work, to meet each other and to meet representatives from the industry. This new building offers a recognisable 'home' to seven institutes at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences: the atrium, the institute squares and the café will bring people together and connect them.
Since the start of the design process, sustainability has been key. Among other things, this translated into the application of LED lighting, thermal energy storage and PV cells, whereby the building lays the basis for energy neutrality. The chosen installation concept not only contributes to sustainability goals, above all it ensures a pleasant and comfortable working environment for the users. BREEAM Excellent is our starting point.
Maintenance & management
During the 15-year operational phase, maintenance will also be performed sustainably. The use of electric scooters and cars and maximum re-use of released materials are planned. With the use of the innovative Strukton PULSE, the building maintenance and management platform, we support the corrective and preventive maintenance and continuously optimise the sustainability goals.
This DBM contract will be implemented by the SPARK consortium in which BESIX and Strukton Worksphere both have an equal share.
